Counselling can be beneficial for adults for a range of difficulties. Counselling may take the form of supportive counselling to work through issues you are experiencing or targeted treatment for mental health concerns. Some areas where I can provide adult counselling include stress management, separation/divorce, life transition, grief, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, anger, substance use, and trauma.
In my work with adults, I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches, depending on the client's needs.
I am also a certified Brainspotting practitioner, an evidence-based treatment for trauma and a range of other difficulties. For more information on Brainspotting, please see the Brainspotting section on the website.
Children and adolescents can benefit from counselling services for a wide range of concerns. Counselling for children requires a specialized approach with interventions tailored to the child's developmental level. I have training in working with children of all ages and have taken specialized training to provide treatment to preschool-aged children. Some of the areas that I can support children include stress, bullying, self-esteem, social skills, anger, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, ADHD, behaviour issues, grief, and separation/divorce.
Depending on the child's needs and developmental level, I use a range of approaches when working with children, including play-based therapy, sand tray, art, painting, puppets, clay, and storytelling.
I am also trained in the use of Brainspotting with children, which can be used to target trauma and resolve distressing emotions related to past experiences, as well as decrease distress related to current emotions or "stuck" feelings. I have successfully used Brainspotting to help children with trauma, anxiety, school refusal, self-harm, sleep issues, and anger.
My office is child-friendly. I have a play-therapy room set up for working with children and large seating areas for working with families.
Parenting is hard; there is no other way to put it. I am passionate about supporting parents and families and in addition to counselling services offer parent coaching services. I have had the privilege of working with hundreds of families over the course of my career.
